This FOLKBILEN Split VW was produced in Sweden as a completed model, came in a small rectangular box and perhaps was a copy of the WIKING Split VW constructional model kit idea. The various plastic parts included a chassis, front and rear seats, gas tank, engine/transmission, tires, hub caps and spare tire. The chassis, wheels and interior parts were a combination of different colors such as red, blue, green and yellow. The FOLKBILEN VW Sedan was of lesser quality when compared to the German Wiking 1:40 scale VW Sedan of the same era.
The crude cut out windows of the FOLKBILEN VW being the most obvious compared to the WIKING VW model. The plastic material used was also less clear when compared to the WIKING VW. There were two chassis variations, one with bumper over riders and one without. The known chassis colors are red, green, blue and cream. There appears to be two different body moldings with the most striking difference being the fact that the rear window opening on one variation is a slightly smaller in size when compared to the other version.
The cardboard carton for the FOLKBILEN plastic VW represented a very nice graphic representation of the Split VW as well. There were drawings on the carton showing the assembly instruction of the various parts to complete the Split VW model.
Enclosed is also a picture of a very rare ad from 1952 for the Folkbilen toy. Back then it could be bought for 1 Swedish Crown.... With that said, the FOLKBILEN Split VW now is highly desirable, seldom found and very collectable.
