Diecast metal body with cut out windows and good details of front and rear hood, door seams and rear split window with air louvers. Metal chassis attached to the body with rivets. Metal axles, rims and rubber tires. Approximately 2000 were produced by the Aluminiumfabriek Vaassen (NL) by order of mr. Sweering before production came to a hold. After having assembled only a limited amount of these Split VWs, production was halted as Dinky Toys, England, issued a very comparable model for a lower price. The remainder of the stock was then kept unassembled till the end of the fifties, when Mr. Sweering decided to sell his stock. He altered the Split Window VW casting into an Oval Window style VW and added a plastic chassis with “MADE IN US ZONE GERMANY” writing. This would be seen as a sign of quality (being made in Germany versus Holland) and it might stimulate sales! The original metal chassis were long gone by then as the cellar where Mr. Sweering kept the chassis was flooded.
