GAY TOYS Inc. was founded in 1962 in Walled Lake, Michigan, USA. They produced cheap toys for Dime Stores. In 1987 they changed their name into American Plastic Toys Inc.
In the 1960’s GAY TOYS produced 2 versions of a VW T1 Bus. V1 is either a blue Camper or a red Ambulance. Details included cut out windows, door seam lines, headlights, VW front emblem, turn signals, air louvers, gas door and engine lid. Front and rear bumpers and specific plastic interior CAMPER parts like the seats and table or AMBULANCE parts like the stretcher, a three-legged seat and medical devices. The chassis has details of the real VW Bus chassis with enforcement bars, a tow hook, engine and the plastic wheels with metal axles snap onto the chassis. At the front side doors it is marked: GAY CAMPER. They also had a sticker on top of the toys.
