There has been a debate about this HWN (Heinrich Wimmer Nürnberg) bus toy for many years. People collect it as a VW Bus as it has the typical ‘nose’ look. However if you look at the doors (reverse) and the cargo doors in the back – there are two that open in the middle and that go all the way down. None of these HWN toys have a VW logo so like all of the little cheap penny toys – they were inspired by cars of the time, but they did not take it too seriously to make a detailed model of a particular car. There were a lot of early toys even before the VW Bus with this V front design. Some trains used it as well, and I believe that often a generic vehicle was manufactured having the V front to show the stylish air flow design of the time.
The HWN vehicle has backward cab doors compared to a real VW and a sideways swing open rear door indicating no rear engine. Finally it has flared front wheel wells similar to a Tempo Matador. It was never intended to be a VW.
