HAMILTON STEEL PRODUCTS CABRIO PEDAL CAR

HAMILTON STEEL PRODUCTS of Chicago, Illinois, USA, was established in 1933. It was a manufacturer of garden equipment and children's toys, including a popular line of steel pedal Jeeps manufactured from the late 1950s through the mid-1960s. The Company declared bankruptcy in 1964, going out of business in 1965. As a cheaper alternative to the all-steel Jeep, HAMILTON STEEL PRODUCTS also produced fiberglass alternate bodies to fit their Jeep chassis. Two known examples are a 1958 Chevrolet Impala and a Volkswagen Cabrio.

Large fiberglass Volkswagen Cabrio body on a heavy steel pedal car chassis with a steel windshield made of welded steel stock. The wheels were steel rims with rubber tires with "H" logo center caps, and stamped steel steering wheel with center "H" logo. The body was bright yellow gel coat, and body details included front hood, door outlines, detail of headlights and taillights, a folded convertible top. The decklid has details of a pre-1958 VW Cabrio design. The HAMILTON STEEL PRODUCTS catalog number is 1-MODEL 908.
