VOLKSWAGENWERK SPLIT VW V1 was created by jozsi
in the last years many aluminium splits mounted on -so called original- base plates were sold on eBay. There is an easy way to see whether it is originally made by VW. These wooden baseplates were (no exception) bought by VW from the company of OBO and were made of synthetic resin densified wood.

How were the cars mounted on the base? Were the bosses on the bottom drilled and threaded for long studs or bolts?

they were indeed drilled and bolted to the wooden baseplate!

Ah. Mine was never drilled, so it was never mounted on a base,
