The HAMMER Company was founded by Mr. Arthur Hammer in Lüdenscheid, Germany, in 1937 and produced tools for manufacturing thermo and duroplast materials. In 1950, they bought an injection mold machine and started producing small plastic toys.

Two versions exist: a version (see Hammer V2) with wheels as a part of the body, no axles and a clear plastic chassis and the version we feature HERE (Hammer V1) without chassis, but with black plastic wheels on metal axles.

One-piece plastic body with cut out windows except for the rear window with DBGM and “6” engraved inside. This version came with a clear plastic insert for the windows and a rarer version featured a white ‘milky’ plastic insert.

Also seen with promotional stamps on the roof. Most HAMMER models were used as promotional items for several brands in Germany and Austria. This version with axles was also sold in small plastic pouches containing several car models.

This version of the HAMMER split beetle were also copied in South America (Peru). The material of this copy was a kind of softer plastic (see listing Hammer V3).
