A couple of years later, a German merchant having found the saved VW body parts from the fire decided to make the chassis and wheels for the prototype bodies. The bodies were painted, a plastic chassis made with the inscription MADE IN US ZONE GERMANY and rubber tires. It is theorized that the German merchant would have better success selling the diecast VWs as being German made because of the well-known German toy craftsmanship of the time.
